Ethnography

Cressman and Guettermann (2019) describe ethnography as a research design used to describe, analyze, and interpret the patterns of behaviour, beliefs, and language in a group of people who share a culture and/or context. Ethnography is historically rooted in cultural anthropology research. Examining patterns occurs through the collection of information relating to the routines, rituals, rules, roles and relationships exhibited by those within the group (SaldaƱa & Omasta, 2018). Information can be gathered through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The group parameters need to defined for the specific research being conducted. Despite being difficult to categorize, three forms of ethnographic research designs include realist ethnography, critical ethnography, and the case study (Cressman & Guettermann, 2019).
