Appendix E: Service to Lakehead University

Teaching practice does not stop at the door of the classroom. Teaching practice, as outlined by the College of Teachers, is exemplified by an ethos of service to the teaching and learning community. My service to the Faculty of Education (FoE) at Lakehead includes opportunities for students and faculty to learn with and from each other. In this way, I model what I hope to research – the open educational practices of teacher educators in FoE in Canada. Each presentation is shared openly (see Appendix E). These documents provide ongoing access and support to students and faculty beyond the one-time professional learning sessions in which they are presented.
One specific presentation is an exemplar of my creative problem solving skills. In order to accommodate the physical constraints of the FoE building in Orillia and still provide professional learning to the new Year One teacher candidates in a timely manner, this unique session provided a single simultaneous presentation that was live-streamed into five classrooms for over 150 teacher candidates using Zoom video conferencing software. This was a collaborative effort with a co-presenter, several graduate assistants, and was attended by several faculty advisors who teach each of the Year One cohorts. This session is linked here for consideration as exemplary service to the Lakehead FoE.
